Author Sayde Grace On Characterization and Giveaways!

I invited author Sayde Grace. Please help welcome Sayde Grace...

Hello everyone!! I’m so excited about the new box set that I can barely wait to get to that part of the blog today! Argh, however let’s talk first. It’s been a little while since I’ve published anything so if you are an author and like me, I want to give you some advice, try going back to writing what you started with. I love paranormal books and love writing them, in fact after writing Chief Sin I started writing another paranormal. However, my passion when I started writing was sexy westerns. I grew up in the equine and cattle industry as well as rodeo life so it was natural for me to write about characters who lived in those settings. So if you’re in a writing slump and don’t know what to do I suggest first you go back to writing what you first feel in love with writing. For me, that’s my sexy westerns.

The second part of my post is about using your best assets to get you going again. For me that’s characterization. I tend to bring in every character in my book in about the first three pages. It drives my editors nuts and I have to work hard on not introducing too many people at one time, (I’m still guilty of this).  But in my defense as I’m writing and seeing the scenes in my head and the people gathered around I want my readers to know who all is there and what I’m seeing too. I’m just trying to get everyone involved J Yet, that doesn’t work out well. So what I’ve been working on is instead of bringing in all the characters I pick my main ones and build on them while sprinkling in my secondary characters along the way.  Using my strength I’ve really beefed up my writing, focusing on what I love and what makes the characters in my books so realistic. When building characters I give them everyday problems, even problems that are horrible and we don’t want to read about because reading is an escape for most of us. Yet, by doing that I’ve grounded the characters and made them believable while maybe even giving readers hope that no matter what they’re going through it could get better.
If you’re an author in a slump do what you love, what drew you to writing in the first place and focus on one strength you have. If you’re a reader, never forget to let the author of your favorite books know what you loved about it. Those comments help us more than you know. Thanks for reading my posts and hope to hear from you all.
Here’s my contribution to the Brought To His Knees Collection:
Chief Sin:
A taste of Sin isn't enough. Instead she wants all of hims, including the heart she broke.
Blurb:
Mavis Tanem has the world at her feet. She’s young, wealthy, and independent, yet none of that means anything. Years of seeking revenge against her father have left her cold and hard. There’s no place in her life for softness—for love. Yet when her brother goes missing she’s forced to go back to where it all started. And back to Bowie Sinet, the man she broke.

The devil was back in Tanem, Texas and Bowie is ready for the smart-mouthed and sexy as hell woman who’d torn his heart to pieces. As sheriff he’s used his handcuffs for a lot, but what he wants to do with them and Mavis might just be against the law, in more ways than one.

A single night is too much and yet not enough for either of them. They both know it’s too late to change the past, but maybe together they can exorcise the ghosts that haunt them, and find some peace.

Brought To His Knees
The Alpha male. Strong. In control. Letting no one and nothing rule him…until he meets the one, and all bets are off. The world tilts, the bed rocks, and suddenly that tough guy finds himself Brought to His Knees—in more ways than one.

This collection of ten hot to erotic novellas and one short erotic novel will take you on journeys of lust, love, and adventure, leave you breathless and quite possibly in need of a cold shower.

Thank you to everyone involved in this project, its been wonderful and I hope you all enjoy all the stories, not just mine. To find out more about me please follow the links below:

  6. Can't wait to read my way through the box set SaydeGrace. I've heard that editors don't like a whole heap of characters introduced on the first few pages, but I can understand your enthusiasm. Loved reading about you.

  9. Great tips and advice. I love writing paranormal romances too. I tend to introduce too many characters at once as well. I guess I have to fix that. Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

  12. As characterisation is just as important if not more so than plot to me I was interested to read what Sayde had to say about the writer using their best assets. Great post, thank you.
